The Science Behind Catching Dust

The Science Behind Catching Dust

Recommending the cheapest, least restrictive filter is still the most common "fix" in residential HVAC, and NCI's Adam Mufich lays out why it is the wrong answer for most homes. The pressure drop on a high MERV filter is a sizing problem, not a media problem: increase surface area and pleat depth, drop face velocity toward 300 FPM, and a properly designed MERV 13 (or higher) filter can land near 0.20 in. w.c. on a real installation. Adam runs three-year-old MERV 16 filters on his own home with that result, measured on a TEC DG-8 paired into measureQuick.

The takeaway for service managers: when techs default to the cheapest filter, the system gets a band-aid and the customer loses both equipment life and IAQ.

Make It Recurring Revenue: Elite Air Filters by Zephyr

Filter Fulfillment with Elite Air Filters by Zephyr

Sizing the filter correctly is the engineering step. Fulfilling it on a recurring schedule is the business step. Elite Air Filters by Zephyr ships MERV 13 filters with full-perimeter gaskets on a six-month replacement cycle, drop-shipped to the homeowner with your branding and commission tied back to your account.

The integration lives inside the measureQuick app: enter the filter details on the service call, tap "Set up Replacement" or "Send Email," and the subscription is in motion before the tech leaves the driveway.

measureQuick and Daikin: Live Factory Support in Ohio

measureQuick and Daikin Pilot

measureQuick and Daikin are piloting live factory support for Daikin dealers in Northeast Ohio. Dealers can connect their measureQuick account to Daikin support and stream the same live refrigerant, airflow, and electrical data the technician sees, so the factory expert is working from instrument data instead of a phone description.

The pilot includes a $500 Daikin Company Bucks credit and 10% off the first month for new subscribers (promo code XYY5BF6X); existing subscribers can join by emailing Valerie to connect their account.

New from Jim: AccuTools TruBlu Evacuation Kits with Fixed-End Hose

Jim Bergmann on the new AccuTools TruBlu fixed-end vacuum hose kits

TruBlu is already the highest-conductance vacuum hose on the market, but a KF fitting on both ends can be a wrestling match in tight spots. AccuTools has added a 3/8" fixed-end option to the TruBlu evacuation kits: one end threads permanently onto the vacuum pump (clearing the handle and filter on Fieldpiece-style pumps where two 3/8" ports sit right next to each other), and the other end keeps the KF fitting so you still get a straight or 90-degree adapter for mini splits and other tight access.

Jim Bergmann walks through the new kits in a short video, including the single-hose installer kit (now available with a micron gauge included) and the two-hose kit for commercial and rooftop work. Available now through TruTech Tools.

Spring Shoulder Season Playbook: Three Plays That Pay Off All Summer

Spring Shoulder Season HVAC Playbook

The shoulder season is the window where peak-summer callbacks get prevented or built in. The playbook outlines three plays worth running before the phones ring off the hook: standardize a custom checklist on every truck, screen Total External Static Pressure on every maintenance call (70% of systems exceed 0.5 in. w.c. in measureQuick's dataset), and commission cold-morning installs with a charging blanket so the high side actually develops working head pressure.

Run all three in May and revenue per call, callback rate, and net promoter score start moving together by July.

Upcoming Training: Trainer & Champion Gatherings

These free virtual sessions are for everyone teaching measureQuick: certified trainers, in-house company champions, and anyone planning to step into the role. Each gathering covers updates to the standard cooling-mode PowerPoints for AC and heat pumps, how to access the decks and handouts, mQ+ features, checklists, demo data, and the next round of Train the Trainer dates.
